Many people training for an upcoming race will buy a book or find a website that has a pre-built training schedule for them to follow. Sometimes those cookie-cutter training programs can be very successful, but many times they are not. The problem with cookie-cutter training programs is that they are designed for a small percentage of runners.
When people decide to run a particular race they set that goal with different running histories, strengths, weaknesses, and goals from someone else who decides to run that same race. The benefit that you get when you have your own coach is that your training program will take all those differences into consideration when it is created. Your program will focus on making your strengths even stronger while improving your weak areas. Your coach will also take your running history into consideration. If you have never run more than a mile and you are training for a 5K then we will not expect you to be able to run 3 miles when you start the first day of the training schedule.
Your training schedule is also designed to maximize your available training time. If you have a family outing planned on Saturday morning then your training schedule will be planned to work around that. Have a business trip in the middle of the week? We can help plan your most important workouts so that you can still get the workouts in, but yet you still get to relax a bit during the trip.
